To make a 16 year story palatable, I'll give you the important points...
Perforated a disc in 1992 in San Diego. Moved to Illinois [home of Governor Blaggo], 1997. Fusion surgery with a titanium cage 1999. Felt great for one year. That was it, so long, see ya, the fat lady sang (wait a minute...!).
Fast-forward to November, 2008. Whirlwind 2-day trip to San Diego to see specialist. New doc had simple X-rays taken. The Result: My '99 surgery failed and I have two levels that require fusion - L4-5 & L5-S1. Well, sort of - my lineup and counting is different due to an extra vertabra with no disc space. The level above is also compromised, but they're not sure the best course for that one yet.
Bottom line is that no treatment will work other than surgery. I need to be on a "wait until I can get onto his surgical schedule" pain [maintenance] routine. At least we know. My job now is to research orthopaedics both in Spfld and St. Louis. We need to get it right & the Lord WILL.
Note: I am completely off of the fentanyl patch that was all the way up to 100 mcgs. I put on my last (25 mcg) patch Christmas Day. As I became narcotic-free, my worst memory of the pain was realized. This is why I went on the patch tobegin with; this is why I didn't want to go back to that pain! Now I know that my 9 years of pain have been caused by ever-degenerating bone-on-bone compression. It is unbearable.
My pain doctor prescribed Darvocet to help with the transition from the big guns. Quite frankly, it's like aspirin. But it does take a bit of the edge off both the pain and my emotions. Pray for me and my family. I don't want to snap at them or bite off any heads, especially my DH Brian. I wouldn't be here but for God's hand. I hope He uses this experience for His glory.
Lemme know your thoughts. Thanks.

Isaiah 53:5 "...and by His wounds we ARE healed." Make the declaration that Jesus already paid the price for your healing 2000 years ago, and that the healing for your body is manifested. I will for you, and I will ask my Pastor to do so as well. Be mightily blessed of God!

Since I have been on bedrest since Christmas and am pretty bored of the cottage cheese ceiling, I've had time to and seek the Lord's face. I realize the surgery, and the ultimate result, are completely in His hands. God is in control (I hear a song coming on...) of all aspects of my life, pain, emotions. He is the one to whom all glory goes - regardless of the outcome! In fact, I am hoping He grants me the opportunity to share my Best Friend with each person who talks with me.
Here's where I stand as goes the back surgery...
There's a new - in the last 9-12 mos - disc bulge a little higher in the thoracic area that impinges the spinal canal causing occasional numbness & weakness in my legs. After talking with other surgeons, my doc decided to continue to do the fusion surgery and keep an eye on my thoracic area.
I have a two-level vertebral fusion this Tuesday, March 3rd, at Memorial Medical Center in the morning: two levels, rods & screws, open from the back (yuk), about 6 hours.
Although I can't wait to start felling better as I know the surgery should make me feel, I dread the actual healing and recouperation period. I'm hoping it'll take less time to recover than it did before. 2 Timothy 1:7 comes to mind, but it's hard to apply...

Facing fear from a Biblical perspective.
Please keep my "Boys" and me in your best ers because we are in the best place when we're with the Lord in er!
Thank you to my DFF (Dear Friend Forever) Dawn for arranging meals (hers have been scrumptious!), and to Pam & Elissa for taking care of Michael & AJ on Tuesday. And everyone else who is ing, thinking or doing for us at this time. It's a wonderful thing when the family of God comes together to uphold one of their own. I am humbled, thankful and most grateful.
Love to you all,

Lisa,
I will continue to keep you in er for God to do a work of miraculous healing for your back! Isaiah 53:5 says "And by His stripes we ARE healed." Not will be but we are healed NOW because of the victory that Christ made for us with His sacrifice and Blood. Also Matthew 17:20 says "...if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you."
I'm in agreement that this mountain of infirmity is moving now and is cast into the sea, and that God is completing a work of restoring structures in your vertebrae that the enemy has stolen, and he has to restore it one hundred times over, and the pain is also bound off and stripped of all authority in Jesus' name!
Be mightily blessed of God, sister!
Gaye
